Vocational
Rehabilitation & Job skills training Programme
Automobile
Workshop, Driving School, Fabrication Unit, Sewing Unit Screen Offset
& Letterpress Printing Vocational Rehabilitation plays an important
role in the Whole Person Recovery.
The
Unit functioning at 21, Seal Lane provides screen-printing, offset
printing and a six months certificate course for tailoring. Users
are also trained as security staff, peer educators and computer
operators.The Gears Unit set up with assistance from DOH International
provides a course in driving, motor mechanic training and fabrication.

A
revolving fund supported by the ILO has been set up to sustain
the Vocational Rehabilitation Programme.
Work
Place Prevention
We
work in partnership with TISCO Jamshedpur Airport Authorities
Indian Airlines and RBI Calcutta Counsellors regularly interact
with workers at these organizations offering a multitude of services
to enable the worker to become productive and regular at the work
place.
Harm
Reduction
Needle
Exchange programmes, sexual health check-ups, condom distribution,
primary health care, abscess management, pre and post-test counseling,
substitution clinics offering sublingual buprenorphine with day
care and counselling facilities.
Self
help programmes for clients on substitution and night shelters
and vocational rehabilitation facilities have been created for
them.
Self-Help
Groups
Self
help group meetings like Narcotics Anonymous (N.A.) and Alcoholics
Anonymous (A.A.) are held regularly. A separate meeting for the
families of the dependents is held weekly where the families also
have access to counseling to help deal with their co-dependency.

Training
In partnership
with NISD, UNODC, UNICEF, PCI, UNESCO and DFID, training programmes
and workshops on capacity building are held. These programmes
reach out to the police personnel; youth club leaders and other
agencies working in the same field. People in our teeming metropolis
often find themselves in situations beyond their grasp due to
suicide, depression, misfortune, bereavement, broken marriage,
addictions, feelings of intolerable guilt, rejection and psychological
problems. Having been identified as Regional Resource & Training
Centre (Eastern Region) by the Ministry of Social Justice and
Empowerment, Government of India and UNODC responsible for the
states of Bihar,Jharkand,Sikkim and Darjeeling of West Bengal
.The work of the RRTC is to ensure capacity building of local
NGO’s Human resources building, monitoring of the drug abuse situation,
research and Behaviour Change Communication in the region.

Networking
The Calcutta
Samaritans has established fine networks with Government and Non
Government Organizations both nationally and internationally in
the field of drug and HIV/AIDS prevention and care services. We
are a contributing member in the NGO AIDS Coalition, City Level
Plan of Action for street children (CLPOA) and Action against
Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of Children (ATSEC).
Advocacy
Regular sensitization
programmes are held with the police, bureaucracy judiciary and
educational institutions to bring about advocacy.

offers a spectrum of services geared to help the client achieve
Whole Person Recovery (Drug-free, Crime-free and Gainfully Employed)

The
Response
The response
has been overwhelming over the years. An average of ten people
are befriended everyday. These include the depressed the suicidal,
the lonely, the addicts as well as those with emotional, domestic
,marital and personality problems.

Volunteers
need no professional experience and no age limit above 18.
They are chosen carefully for their attitudes,listening skills,warmth,and
compassion.Volunteers are given training from time to time in
basic counseling skills by senior staff of the Samaritans.
