Report of 5th National Conference of FINGODAP held at Trivandrum

The Federation of Non Governmental Organizations for Drug Abuse Prevention conducted its Vth National Conference at Thiruvananthapuram from 6th to 8th January 2006. FINGODAP Kerala Chapter, the Department of Social Welfare, and the Government of Kerala jointly hosted the conference. Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and UNODC and few other agencies provided the financial support.

The inaugural function held on January 6, 2006 at Maria Rani Center, Thiruvananthapuram, was inaugurated by Sri Oommen Chandy, the Chief Minister of Kerala. Many other dignitaries were also present at the function. Nearly 500 participants from various States of India representing 486 NGO’s in the field, actively participated in this event.

There were many sessions on important topics such as Alcoholism, Drug Abuse, HIV/AIDS etc. Scientific papers were presented on respective topics and the delegates actively participated in the discussions held, after each presentation. An ‘interface’ meeting was held between the senior functionaries of the Central Ministry, Government of Kerala and the N.G.O.’s working in this field.

Sri Remesh Chennithala, Ex Minister delivered the valedictory message on 8-01-2006 at 12.00 noon in the presence of Government functionaries, FINGODAP Officials and other Dignitaries.
The success of this Conference was the result of the well organized net work of FINGODAP Kerala Chapter. It is the first time that a State Chapter of the FINGODAP conducts a National Conference involving all member organizations of the respective State Chapter.
All the participants who attended the event congratulated the effective networking system of the Kerala chapter during their deliberations.
This mega event created a great impact on the functionaries of the Government as well as among the common public.
Yes, indeed this sort of ‘net working’ among NGO’s is highly praiseworthy.
